About

Hi there – my name is Dennis. I’m an author, a musician and a professional speaker. And I’m the guy who writes stuff here.
The Detour Project is an ongoing collection of essays exploring roads less traveled, lessons learned and random observations.
I was 14 when my dad died by suicide. I blamed myself for his death and spent more than a decade in a suicidal depression. It was a tragic, traumatic experience that was followed by an incredibly difficult journey, but I’ve seen, learned and experienced things I might not have otherwise, and that’s some of what I hope to share here.
This site was launched after I wrote an eBook called “Building a Foundation for Happiness“ which you can download for free HERE. It’s short (you can read it in about an hour), and it’s a great place to get started here and get to know a little bit more about me.
We’re all coming from different places and sets of experiences of course, but I think finding ways to live a happier life is something most of us have in common. I don’t claim to have all the answers. My goal is to share my experiences with you in an open and honest way and hope that it is helpful somehow.
Thank you for taking the time to be here!
Cheers,
- Dennis
